Trains in Italy
Italian Railway (Ferrovie dello Stato), FS, are cheap, comfortable and efficient. Due to the mountainous nature of Italy, generally north-south routes are fast, and east-west journeys slower. Fast Eurostar trains (for which you need to pay a supplement and make reservations in advance) run between most major cities.
Timetable information and tickets can be obtained at FS travel centres at major train stations.
Ticket and information counters at major stations are usually open between 06h00 & 22h00 every day.
